Amsterdam, Feb. 13, 2025 - Today the cooperation between Amsterdam UMC and Milgro will be officially ratified with a festive signing moment. This does not mark the real start, as both parties have been working together on preparations and initial improvements for some time. The signing ceremony is a nice moment to reflect on the shared ambitions and the further steps that will be taken.
The hospital deliberately chose Milgro because of its independent position and innovative approach. Important factors in this choice are transparency in waste processing, clear improvement proposals and a fixed point of contact. First, the current situation is mapped, after which targeted work is done on optimizations.
The objectives are ambitious: by 2026, residual waste must be reduced by 25% compared to 2018. The exact percentage from that time is still to be determined. By 2030, no more than a quarter of the waste may consist of residual waste. Milgro has the expertise and proven approach to translate these objectives into concrete, achievable results. Thanks to their experience and innovative methods, they know exactly which steps are necessary to structurally make waste streams more sustainable and manage them efficiently.
Through this collaboration, Amsterdam UMC demonstrates that waste management is not just about collection, but about smart and forward-thinking handling of resources. This initiative, which aligns well with the goals outlined by the Green Deal Sustainable Healthcare, also provides valuable insights for other healthcare institutions looking to advance in the field of circular waste processing.
